10 Balanced Breakfasts for Busy Mornings- Dietitian Approved

Whether you're back at it with busy school mornings or just need new inspiration to get in a balanced first meal, we've got some ideas for you. When putting together a breakfast that will help you feel full through the morning, make sure you include:

  • Grains or starches for energy (bonus points for whole grains)

  • Protein (to help you feel satisfied and steady throughout the morning)

  • Fruits or veggies (they give you vitamins, minerals and fiber for a healthy gut)

Here's 10 ideas that are quick, easy and satisfying:

  1. Peanut Butter Cup Waffles & Fruit: Top chocolate protein waffles (our favorite is the Kodiak Dark Chocolate ones) with peanut butter and serve with a side of fruit.

  2. Instant Grits:  Stir in cheese, ham and veggies to make this a balanced breakfast.

  3. Baked Oatmeal: Just mix and bake your morning oatmeal so you are free to get ready instead of standing at the stove. Try our yummy Pumpkin Baked Oatmeal recipe.

  4. Yogurt Parfaits:  Top Greek Yogurt w/ berries and granola. Easy Peasy.

  5. Egg In A Hole with Fruit or Avocado: This classic breakfast is quick and easy. Use whole grain bread for extra fiber. Try our a recipe for sheet pan Baked Egg In a Hole that will feed the whole family.

  6. Fruit Smoothie & Peanut Butter Toast:  Blend your favorite frozen fruit with milk for a super easy fruit smoothie and serve it with peanut butter toast. If you want just the smoothie, add a protein mix-in like peanut butter, nonfat dry milk or protein powder and blend in some oats.

  7. Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats: Using your pressure cooker to make steel cut oats cuts down on time and lets the gadget do the work for you. Try out our recipe for Harvest Steel Cut Oats.

  8. Make Ahead Breakfast Tacos: Make a big batch of your favorite breakfast tacos on the weekend, wrap them individually in paper towels and store them in a zip lock or Tupperware in the fridge. Reheat them individually on busy mornings for an easy breakfast.

  9. Hash browns with a Fried Egg & Avocado: Try easy pre-prepped options like Simply Potatoes to make hash browns quick and easy.

  10. Breakfast Quesadillas: Melt cheese with scrambled eggs and veggies between two whole wheat tortillas for an easy to grab-and-go breakfast. Add pre-made guacamole cups (like these) to make this breakfast super satisfying.
